Engineering
Schneider Engineering & Consulting excels in marine and civil engineering, delivering unparalleled solutions for diverse projects.
Orion Engineering & Consulting managed planning, permitting, and 100% engineering for dredging and marine terminal structures at SDK #5 in the Houston Ship Channel. The platform connects to an existing facility via a pipeline crossing with 7 pipelines. We provided construction services, including weekly coordination, site visits, RFI responses, submittal reviews, inspections, and As-Build drawings in ACAD format.
Orion played a vital role in the comprehensive planning, permitting, and 100% engineering design services for the ambitious project at SDK #5 on the Houston Fuel Oil site within the Houston Ship Channel. This multifaceted endeavor encompassed the dredging of an impressive 480,000cy of material and the strategic installation of approximately 1,400ft of a new bulkhead wall, defining a new paradigm for marine terminal structures.
Notably, the project featured the meticulous installation of 4 mooring dolphins, 4 breasting dolphins, and 7 barge fender piles, strategically positioned to serve future requirements. The platform, with a footprint of approximately 110ft by 44ft, was designed to meet the demands of a dynamic operational environment. A key facet of the project involved creating a vital link to an existing facility on the opposite side of the channel, achieved through a pipeline crossing accommodating 7 pipelines, thereby enhancing connectivity and operational efficiency.
Throughout the construction phase, our role extended beyond design, providing crucial construction services. This included orchestrating weekly coordination conference calls, conducting site visits for on-the-ground assessments, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing submittals, overseeing final inspections, and meticulously preparing punch lists. To ensure a comprehensive record of the project, Orion undertook the preparation of As-Built drawings in AutoCAD (ACAD) format, providing a detailed and accurate representation of the final infrastructure.
In essence, our engagement in this project showcased our expertise in navigating the complexities of marine engineering, seamlessly integrating planning, design, and construction services to realize a robust and efficient marine terminal.
