Nashville Avenue Terminal Conversion to Container & Crane Rail Extension Warehouse Demolition

Orion’s mission was to transform this storage warehouse into an efficient container ship berth at the Port of New Orleans. This entailed the demolition of Shed C and the fender system; replacing the deck; installing new piles, beams, and crane rail; and addressing under-deck pile repairs. Operating on the dynamic Mississippi River posed unique challenges, including seasonal changes and navigating existing dock conditions.

Port of New Orleans Transformation

The Nashville Avenue Terminal Conversion to Container & Crane Rail Extension Warehouse Demolition project at the Port of New Orleans converted the storage warehouse into a functional container ship berth. Work included demolition of existing Shed C and the fender system, concrete deck demolition, installation of 225 new precast concrete piles, cast in place (CIP) beam, CIP deck, and a new 175-pound crane rail. Additionally, the project involved the installation of new 18-inch paving, fire water system, fender system, marine bollards, and power vaults for cranes. Under-deck pile repairs were necessary for both steel and concrete piles. Challenges included navigating seasonal changes, under-dock access, and existing dock conditions on the Mississippi River.
