Above and Below Water Inspections

OxyChem enlisted the expertise of Orion’s Engineering and Consulting team to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a facility constructed in 1964 along the Mississippi River. The objective was to perform a topside inspection and Level 1 & Level II underwater inspections of the dock and associated structures, ultimately to ascertain the feasibility of acquiring the facility.

Our engineers executed a visual above-water inspection, adhering to the rigorous standards set by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The various structures, including the main pier, barge slip mooring bollards, fender systems, access trestle, and structural support members, underwent scrutiny during inspections conducted from both land and dive boats.

Guiding the underwater inspections, our team provided essential support to divers. Immediate reporting of critical and severe deficiencies to our engineers allowed for prompt instructions and further investigation. Subsequently, a comprehensive final report, cataloging and summarizing the findings, was submitted to OxyChem. The report not only included recommendations for damage mitigation but also presented an Opinion of Probable Cost (OPC) for the necessary repairs.

OxyChem expressed extreme satisfaction with the report's thoroughness, the estimated repair costs, and the expeditious turnaround. Orion’s inspection team successfully completed the entire assessment, both above and below water, along with the detailed report, within a remarkably swift one-month timeframe.
